Motorsports

Motorsports such as motocross are becoming increasing popular and more people are getting involved in them at a younger age. There are plenty of amateur motocross tracks throughout the country where people can take part in races and various events.

If you're interested in getting involved in motocross or indeed any other motorsports then you'll need an appropriate license. If you want to ride your vehicle on public highways then you'll need to take a motorcycle proficiency test before you can apply to take the theory or practical test. Young people are restricted to using bikes of a certain power on public highways until the reach a certain age and then obtain the appropriate license. Until then they will have to ride restricted motorcycles that carry the appropriate 33bhp certificate. If you want your motorcycle restricting so it is suitable for a younger rider then most garages will be able to do this for you and provide you with the appropriate 33bhp certificate and documentation. It's a crime for new riders to use powerful machines, so bear this in mind.

To take part in motocross and other motorsports you won't need a license, as they usually take place on private land, not public highways. However, getting some training and practice in before having a go at one of these potentially dangerous events is probably advisable.
